The Decatur County Board of Commissioners
May 26, 2009
On Tuesday afternoon, County Commissioners met in an executive session for almost 2 1/2 hours regarding litigation. When they completed conferring with attorney's regarding litigation, Chairman Palmer Rich stated that no action was taken, and no action will be taken from the executive session. We believe the litigation issues discussed continue to be past and near past County Firefighter personnel issues.
The roads and the water problem at Connell Drive, Heritage Circle and King Thomas Drive were addressed by Don Rebrook and Joseph Hall.
The roads are off south Spring Creek Road, just north of Bethany Church Road. Mr Rebrook stated that when he built his house in 1997 he was led to believe that the roads would be paved.
Mr Rebrook and Mr Hall both stated each year the roads have gotten worse. He stated the grater is just lowering the road which brings the water rushing down the road.
They stated the county needs to build the road back up and let the water flow into the drainage ditches. Mr Patton stated that they are on the County to do list. (Yesterday we reported on the Meadowbrook residents water problems.) Comment in Talk Bainbridge
Commissioners adopted a resolution authorizing County Administrator Tom Patton to sign the numerous FEMA documents expected that will be needed for FEMA money to be received by the County.
Approved a Budget Amendment
This moved $9,100 from the planning department equipment budget, to the administrative finance computer budget.
Approved Abating Property for Cleanup
Tom Patton stated the county has gone to every length it could but the property at 2113 Bethel Road was still not cleaned up. He stated the complaints go back a year and the situation is getting worse instead of better. The County will now go in and clean up the property and bill the property owner. They will have 1 year to pay the clean-up charges. If not paid, the County will place a lien on it and take the property.
This property issue was brought up in Talk Bainbridge in October of 2008.
Approved Contract for (6) Sheriff Vehicles
Commissioners approved $149,000 for the 6 vehicles that will be paid by a $190,000 Rural Development grant that Sheriff Griffin had brought to the County. The additional $40,000 of the grant will be used for equipment.
