Roger Clay Davis had no intention of being caught by Decatur County Sheriff's Investigators on Monday afternoon.  First he jerked away from an investigator and took off on foot, then didn't much care that he was cornered and at gunpoint and ran, and dodged and ran some more until finally he was finally taken to the ground in the Bainbridge Mall parking lot.  The fearless, desperate way Clay Davis acted, one might think he was high on meth or something.

Video of the arrests and the scene

Sheriff's Captain Chip Nix stated they had received a tip that Roger Clay Davis, his wife Heather and Russell Heath Jr were making the rounds purchasing cold tablets to make meth.  Investigators were checking pharmacies and Captain Nix and Inv Julian Crowder headed into Walgreens by the Mall.  They headed to the pharmacy but as they did Davis headed out the door.

Investigator Cheryl Roberts took him by the arm but he jerked away and took off running across the parking lot.  As Davis headed into Belks, Investigator Brian Donalson joined the chase.  Investigator Donalson cornered Davis and put him at gunpoint telling him to get down.  Instead, he took off to the back of the store and out the emergency exit, with Donalson right behind him.

Roger Clay Davis fell and slid across the parking lot but jumped up and kept going.  A good citizen pulled his vehicle in front of the fleeing Davis slowing him down.  Investigator Donalson then tackled Clay Davis to the ground and held him until help arrived.  Help did arrive quickly and Davis was secured and placed into an arriving deputy's car for transport to jail.

Below, Investigator Donalson explains to Davis that he should not run as Deputy Sam Hughes and Deputy Richard Hughes take him away.

In November of 2010, Roger Clay Davis had eluded Deputies because of his reckless driving, almost striking a deputies car, in our Reported DUI Driver Flees (with video of the chase).  He had been at large since that time and they was active warrants.

During the chase, Sheriff's Investigator Redell Walton stayed with the parked vehicle with its 2 additional occupants, Heather Davis and Russell Heath Jr.  During a search of the vehicle, Investigators discovered methamphetamine, pseudoephedrine and paraphernalia.

All 3 were charged with possession of methamphetamine, possession of pseudoephedrine, possession of drug objects.  Additional charges will be filed against Roger Clay Davis.
