3 cars of a CSX train derailed at Martin Street in west Bainbridge on Saturday afternoon about 1:30.

The original report stated it appeared that someone turned the derail switch on between the rail cars axles while they were backing up.  The train was backing at about 10 mph.  the conductor stated he had checked the switch twice before the train was moved.

Public Safety Investigator Mark Esquivel was called to the scene.  After many hours at the scene, Investigator Equivel reported it was determined by the CSX railroad investigator that the accident was not due to vandalism.
