Decatur County Sheriff's investigators have uncovered the theft and resell of over 31,000 controlled narcotics from Bainbridge Memorial Hospital beginning in September of last year.
In March, Memorial Hospital contacted the Sheriff's office regarding their discovery of fraudulent narcotic orders being placed from the hospital pharmacy computer.
Lt Chip Nix's investigation revealed a pharmacy tech student, Kim Eakin, would fraudulently place hospital orders for Xanax and Larocet. When the pills arrived, Kim Eakin would take them and give them to her husband, Seth Powell. Seth Powell would then sell the pills for $1 to $1.50 each to individuals in Valdosta.
Lowndes County Sheriff's Drug Investigators were contacted. They served a search warrant at the apartment of Carlyle Kirbo and found 400-600 of the controlled narcotics Xanax and Larocet.
Lt Chip Nix stated the street sale price of the pills were anywhere from $10 to $30 each, depending on where they were sold. 31,000 pills sold at $20 each would total $620,000.
Federal indictments for conspiracy to distribute and possession with intent to distribute are pending against Carlyle Kirbo and Zachary Maxwell of Valdosta and Kim Eakin and Seth Powell of Bainbridge. The charges will be presented to a Federal Grand Jury by Assistant US Attorney Jason Ferguson in the Middle District of Georgia.
