The Decatur County Board of Commissioners, May 13, 2008

Ted Snell addressed the Commissioners saying  "Two months ago I came before you and suggested that maybe you should be brave enough to write a letter to your congressional delegation."  He continued that now gasoline has increased more and inflation has hit every family of 4 by $3,000 in one year.

He stated the states of Florida, California, Oregon and Washington have no concern for the other citizens in the United States.  (The issue is allowing the drilling for oil off their coasts.) Mr Snell stated we have plenty of oil in this country.

He told Commissioners that they have the power to start something happening.  He continued that when people are not buying clothes or going out to eat, "then maybe it is time for you to be brave enough, or maybe I am just naive."

The County Commission reacted to his comments with, Thanks and Next on the agenda is ......

Rail Spur Update
Rebecca Martin was called to report to the Commissioners on the rail spur.  She reported that soil compaction needs to be improved, then CSX will install their equipment.  She is hopeful that all will completed in about 4 to 5 weeks.

Whispering Pines Update
County Administrator Tom Patton told commissioners that the fieldwork has been completed by engineers on the Whispering Pines area and they are compiling it now.  The county is working to solve a serious water problem for the neighborhood.  He stated in a couple of weeks they should have what is needed to be done to remedy that problem.
