Even in a pickup truck, if you get in the way of New York Giants star James Butler, ya gonna feel it.
About 6 pm Thursday afternoon, Jack Thomas was traveling east on Open Pond Road heading home. He stopped at the stop sign at Highway 262 and then pulled out in front of the oncoming Jeep Liberty. James Butler, heading south on 262, did his best to miss the truck but could not.
Mr Butler's Jeep struck the pickup and continued through a shallow ditch and a fence, stopping in the adjacent field. Mr Thomas's Toyota pickup spun, coming to rest on the side of the road. Climax volunteers extinguished the fire that burned the truck's engine area.
Jack Thomas stated his side was bruised pretty badly in the crash. James Butler was checked by EMS and did not appear to have any significant injury.
Jack Thomas told us that after a long full day in meetings, a customer needed some help. He had just left him and headed for home. He stated his mind was elsewhere and just pulled out in front of Mr Butler.
Georgia State Trooper Hall worked the crash.
