Sheriff's Deputy Robert Griffin was killed in a car crash Thursday morning at approximately 9:30 am.

Deputy Griffin was traveling east on Brinson Airbase Road responding to a serious call regarding a juvenile suicide.

State Trooper TFC John Jackson stated the investigation into the crash is ongoing and the GSP Specialized Collision Reconstruction Team (SCRT) was called from Valdosta to assist.  Trooper Jackson stated but it appears that Deputy Griffin left the roadway and lost control of his car as he came back onto the road.

Video of the scene

The patrol car went into a skid, turning approximately 180 degrees leaving the roadway on opposite side.  His car violently struck a tree.  Decatur County Rescue extricated him from the vehicle.

A passerby reported to 911 that a deputy's car was upside down on the side of the road.  The crash occurred just west of Bethel Road on Brinson Airbase Road.
