Bainbridge Public Safety quickly extinguished the main fire but battled the fat lighter lumber in the attic of the house on Tuesday afternoon.

Assistant Fire Chief Gary Welch stated that the fire is believed to have begun due to the stove being left on high when the resident left for a few minutes. Neighbors called in the fire at 426 W College Street at about 2:15 pm.

John Willis (at left), the resident, told us that he left to go buy some cigarettes and returned to find his home on fire.
