Public Safety had a road check set up about midnight Wednesday night at Calhoun and North Broad Street. When an approaching SUV turned 100 ft away into a driveway and proceeded behind the business, it was more than a little suspicious.
Captain Robert Humphrey ran to the area behind the building on one side and Officer John Mills took the far side. Behind the building, Captain Humphrey spotted the SUV pulled over and a white male sprinting away towards a fence. He barely made it over the fence and somehow left his car keys just hanging on the fence. (The keys were helpful for the tow truck a few minutes later.) The suspect was identified as Lucas Wesley Rentz.

Officers diligently searched the fenced in block of old warehouse and brush but were only able to find the suspect's shoes. Officers continued to search the area. A few minutes later, a barefooted Lucas was spotted on Webster Street and he darted behind a residence there.
Public Safety Officers continued to search the surrounding streets. While searching the dark area directly behind the residence, Captain Humphrey, Sgt Bunting and Officer Mills found him hiding on the roof of a utility building.
27 year old Lucas Wesley Rentz was arrested and charged with DUI, Driving without a license and obstruction.
