Shots Fired, More Gang Violence

The corner of Stinson And Columbia Streets is known as a hot spot for one of our local gangs and an area where shots fired is not uncommon.  On Tuesday afternoon about 5:30 pm, Public Safety officers responded to a deluge of 911 calls for shots fired and a crowd gathered in the street.

Officers found the crowd in front of and in the yard of 1702 Stinson Street.  Captain Jack Bunting and his officers separated individuals and began speaking with those involved and witnesses to the event.

I was told by a "witness" that the guys who fired the guns "ran off into the woods".  As it turns out, this is a typical statement from a few in the area, and as I discovered, totally untrue.  The story appears to have begun after an 18 year old and his little sister, who had arrived home from their afternoon at the Friendship House, were walking to their grandmother's house.

The 18 year old had on a red shirt, a gang color in that area.  As they were walking by the Stinson Street home, one of the individuals in the yard told him "You better get that red shirt off" and several reportedly jumped him.  The two got away and went home.  At home, the 18 year old told his uncle that he was going back to get them.

When his uncle, 36 year old John Perry, could not talk him out of it, Perry went to the Stinson Street residence.  A verbal altercation ensued.  It was reported by several witnesses to me that the guy in the green shirt, identified as 21 year old Jubal Davis, came from behind the trailer with a yellow and white shotgun.

Jubal Davis fired the shotgun twice in the air.  He then pointed directly at Perry telling him "I'll kill your ass."  A few minutes later, with Public Safety responding, Jubal left walking south on Stinson.  A witness reported that as he walked away, Jubal was wiping his fingerprints from the shotgun with his shirt.

A few minutes after Public Safety arrived, Jubal showed back up.  After officers were able to sort out the truth from the BS, they searched the area for the shotgun but were not able to locate it.

Neighbors reported that Jubal had threatened someone with a gun in a previous incident.  They also stated that gunshots are regularly heard in the area.

Juball Davis' incidents we have reported include that he took someone's car from a yard in November of 2008 and sold it as junk and an arrest for theft by receiving stolen property in December of 2006.
