On February 6, the man committed a home invasion robbery in Ft Smith Arkansas where he tied up the couple and stole their wallet and their car. Police were able to get images of the suspect from an area convenience store but had little else to go on.
Then, in Alabama, the suspect committed 2 more armed robberies.
Alabama Alcohol Beverage Agents received a tip that the unnamed suspect was in Bainbridge and contacted Investigator Walton. Video from the Kangaroo at Whigham Dairy Road was searched, and what was thought to be the suspect was discovered.
A witness to an Alabama armed robbery viewed it and positively identified him. At that point, Investigator Walton and Investigator Dollar began a search of local motels. They discovered that the suspect had stayed at the Western Motel and was able to ascertain his name, Stacy Lee Drake of Phoenix, AZ, just what the authorities needed.
Days later, 35 year old Stacy Drake struck again, this time in Gordo Alabama.
He put a gun to a man's head coming out of a grocery store. Drake stole the man's wallet and the food he had just purchased, then fled in the victim's car. Gordo Police spotted him and Drake led police on an 8 mile chase before crashing the stolen vehicle.
With the work done in Bainbridge to ascertain his name, authorities have been able to connect him to the 3 other armed robberies. In jail in Pickens County Alabama, Drake was under a $375,000 bond.
The Decatur County Citizens Against Crime awarded the witness a reward for her identification and helping take the another dangerous armed robber off the streets.
