Regarding Public Participation
The 3 minute egg timer was replaced by the 5 minute County Attorney Brown Moseley timer in Tuesday morning's County Commission meeting.
County Chairman Earl Perry read a prepared statement and apologized, stating that he had no intention of being rude to any citizen or fellow commissioner in the last meeting. He went on the say that at Friday's work session, Commissioners spent 1 1/2 hours on how best to conduct their meetings and public participation.
Paul Soudi reported on the 2010 Census and reminded all to make sure they are counted.
Approved DCCI Prisoners for School System
Commissioners approved a request from School Superintendent Ralph Jones for the use of Decatur County Correctional Institute prisoners to help in the upkeep of schools and facilities. Mr Jones assured the board that prisoners are kept well away from any student and the school system will pay for the DCCI guard and related expenses.
Timber Ordinance Tabled
After County Commissioners presented a number of reasons, and stressed it was more than just for tax collection in their last meeting, the discussion on Tuesday morning indicated taxes was the only reason for the proposed Timber Ordinance.
After some confusion on their intention of tabling it for 6 months, Commissioner Butch Mosely spoke up with his understanding that the tax assessor board would submit recommendations on which to base the ordinance. The Timber Ordinance was tabled for 1 month.
