Ah Shucks, $50 Million Is Nothing

Not only does the State of Georgia give up $50 million in funding from the federal government each year, but it costs lives because seat belts are not required while driving a pickup.

Ted Snell urged the City Council, on Tuesday evening, to be proactive in rectifying this and to urge our state lawmakers to pass this law this year.  Every year the law is introduced to the legislature, but never passes.

Mr Snell pointed out that Georgia is the only state in the Union that does not require a seatbelt when driving a pickup.  He also pointed out that 54% of fatal accident victims are not wearing a seatbelt.

My Take?
Surely $50 million can easily be cut from our schools or law enforcement or something, right?  And if not, we can just raise property taxes. (Oops, forgot they've already planned that.)

Those truck driving boys give us elected officials big campaign donations, we can't make them mad.  There is no reason to inconvenience them with such a silly chore as wearing a seatbelt.

And we wonder why our state and our country is in such poor financial condition.  We all know the reason.  Maybe if we raise enough cain down here we can get in on some of that "stimulus" money.
