On Friday, February 11th, Elcan-King Elementary inducted 25 fourth graders as charter members of the school’s National Elementary Honor Society.

These fourth graders qualified as members of the NEHS based on their academics,  community/school involvement, and leadership qualities. L-R  Front Row:  Bailey Brock, Chauance Green, Lani Jackson, Megan Hyatt, Ashlyn Brock, Christopher Coleman, Jacoby Cosby, Jenna Pippins, Samantha  Worthington, Breanna Dean, Jade Stacey, Marianna Powell and Ricky Cabrera. Back row:  Logan Grubbs, Amari Griggley, Savanna Brown, Grace Hathcoat, Peyton Dodson, Jeremiah Davis, Kacee Breeden, Emily Chambers, Bryce Worthy, Morgan Sykes, Kayleigh Glover and Mabry-Grace Briggs.

Keynote speaker and Superintendent of Decatur County Schools, Dr. Fred Rayfield, delivered a message to the new inductees encouraging them to continue to use their God-given abilities, remain motivated, and keep a positive attitude to accomplish even more success in their lives.

The National Elementary Honor Society (NEHS) was established in 2008 by the National Association of Secondary School Principals (NASSP) in cooperation with the National Association of Elementary School Principals (NAESP) to recognize elementary students in both public and non-public elementary schools for their outstanding academic achievement and demonstrated personal responsibility, to provide meaningful service to the school and community, and to develop essential leadership skills in the students of elementary schools.

Through the development of a chapter that functions with these purposes, elementary schools create a method for acknowledging achievement and focusing on the needs of the total child. In addition, NEHS provides information and resources to enhance the culture of achievement in the whole school, not merely the culture of a select few.
