City of Bainbridge, Georgia
Mayor and City Council, January 17, 2012
The City Council also approved a letter of agreement with the University of Georgia's Carl Vinson Institute of Government to develop a GIS (Geographic Information System) for the City.
Dustin Dowdy, Deputy City Manager, presented an overview of the system to City Council on Tuesday evening.
He explained that all City of Bainbridge property, approximately 7,300 parcels of land, will be included. The software will present a number of "layers" that contain information about each parcel of property. The exact layers of information is to be defined but will include sewer, water, gas, zoning, a historic district, voting district overlay- anything that can be included on a map can be included.
The system will be on line and available for persons to easily see everything about a piece of property without coming in and pulling out city maps. Mr Dowdy also stated that crime data can be instituted rather than using push pins on a paper map.
The cost is estimated to be $45,000. Mr Hobby noted that Decatur County officials stated they plan to do the project countywide, but does not know when. There are over 11,000 parcels of land in Decatur County along with the 7,300 city parcels.
It is anticipated that Carl Vinson Institute will have the system competed in about 4 months.
