Bainbridge Advocacy Individual Network

BAIN is a Center for Independent Living dedicated to promoting independence and improving the quality of life for individuals with disabilities in South Georgia. BAIN, Inc is a non-profit, non-residential center serving eleven counties throughout southwest Georgia.

BAIN Inc. is governed and staffed by people with disabilities. 51%of the Board of Directors and staff are people with disabilities. The foundation of their services are the peer supporter relationship; people with disabilities assisting other people with disabilities as role models and mentors.

BAIN, Inc can assist with:

Information and Referral
BAIN has a resource room equipped with books, videos, audiocassettes and a computer with internet access. They can assist with finding accessible housing, transportation and personal care givers. They maintain an entire database of resource information. The BAIN staff will help you learn who to call and what to ask. Knowledge is power.

Peer Support
One of the center’s greatest roles is sharing experiences and offering encouragement form someone who has “been there”. Support from peers can assist you as you explore integration into the community. The center offers a service in which a person with a disability can work with other persons who have disabilities and who live independently. The objective is to explore options and to solve problems that sometimes make adjustments to a newly acquired disability difficult.

Individual and Systems Advocacy
BAIN knows that it is important to know your rights and advocate for them. If you need assistance overcoming personal, governmental or institutional barriers that may limit your potential to live and function independently, they can give you the information you need to overcome them. Self-advocacy is the best advocacy of all

Independent Living Skills Training
BAIN offers information and workshops on topics such as finances, money management skills, home modifications, personal attendant management and how to access community support systems. BAIN will assist you on an individual, personalized basis.
